Ventilate when leather smells
Newspaper and grease
You can also wrap the leather piece tightly in newspaper and store it in a box for a few days. The paper should absorb the odor.
If these options have not worked sufficiently, a high-quality leather grease can also help to eliminate the smell, as it closes the pores in the leather.
Vinegar to remove leather odor
Another method for combating an overly strong leather odor is vinegar water, which is a mixture of equal parts vinegar and water. It's very important to test how the leather reacts to the vinegar water beforehand, as otherwise unsightly stains can form. It's also recommended to use outdoors, as vinegar also has a strong odor. The leather must then be thoroughly re-greased.
Remove leather odor with baking soda
Similar to vinegar, baking soda or baking powder is also very effective at neutralizing odors. The leather should be completely covered with the powder and stored overnight in a sealed plastic bag. Finally, the leather must also be cleaned and re-greased.
