Another important active ingredient is used in the vegetable tanning process: tara. The vegetable tannin is found in the small-growing tara tree, which is found primarily in Peru and India. The pods of the fruit, or fruit pods, are used to produce tannin. The tara pods contain approximately 50 percent tannin.
