Aasseite General
The carrion side, or meat side, is the reverse side of the hide. This is the side facing the animal and, in a living animal, where the flesh is located. This side is usually the rougher side of the leather.
The counterpart to the carrion side, the upper side of the dermis, is called the scar side.
Further processing of the carrion side
During processing, the carrion side is either trimmed or sanded. When the carrion or flesh side is sanded and then becomes the wear side, it is called suede.
