Vegetable tanning and barrel tanning
Barrel tanning is a process of vegetable tanning, or bark tanning, or vegetable tanning. Here, the tanning process is carried out using plant extracts from, for example, fruits, bark, and wood. This process is primarily used for heavy cowhides and transforms them into strong, durable leather. Because barrel tanning shortens tanning times, it is also called quick tanning.
Tanning process in barrel tanning
Barrel tanning involves tanning with a slowly rotating open drum. Combined with a more concentrated solution, this mechanical movement shortens the tanning time. In addition to accelerating the tanning process, barrel tanning also results in slightly softer leather than is typical of its related pit tanning process.
